In the past, Lanyu (蘭嶼, “Orchid Island”) was know as Hongtouryu (紅頭嶼,“Red Head Island”),and is called Ponso No Tao (“Island of the people”) by the Tao (Yami) tribe,Lanyu’s native residents,The island,with an area 45 KM,lies off the southeastern coast of Taiwan,49 miles from Taitung。

There are approximately 3000 inhabitants residing in Lanyu’s six villages:Hongtou,Yuren,Yeyou,Langdao,Dongcing and Yeyin. Lanyu is a hidden gem in the Pacific Ocean,with a unique landscope,Impressive scenery,and abundant ecological resources – a paradise where are many commune with nature。
They have their own lunar calendar,and even now still follow their own traditional customs and rituals。
